Adventure Cove West Coast Vancouver Island

Adventure Cove.  Adventure Cove, where Capt. Robert Gray built the small schooner Adventure in 1792, is filled with history.  The beach is easy to land on.  While walking in the woods we could almost feel the presence of Gray’s Fort Defiance and the shipbuilding activity.   Through the area is now overgrown with large trees, some say you can feel as though something went on here.   Watmough and Douglass describe the history well.  Hulsizer discusses it more thoroughly in “Voyages to Windward”.  Unfortunately, a float house and a fish farm take up most of the cove, leaving little room for anchoring.  Discarded fish farming equipment on the beach makes beach access challenging.
