Only a few minutes from the marina is Cowichan Bay waterfront village.  Docks at Fishermen’s wharf are behind a floating breakwater.  The floating breakwater dock is not connected to land.  A dinghy is needed for shore access.  The privately owned marinas are west of the public wharf.  At the other end of town, Hecate Park has a launch ramp with ample trailer storage.

The annual Cowichan Bay Regatta is held the first weekend in August, a popular event drawing many participants.  The village is full of life.  It has numerous shops and businesses, including liquor stores and good restaurants, not one of them part of a major chain.  Interesting little shops are tucked away everywhere.  The Grain Mill Bakery is superb as is Hilary’s Cheese Shop.  Udder Guys Ice Cream has some of the best ice cream on the coast.  The Cowichan Bay maritime Centre, built on a wharf extending from shore, has many interesting displays.
