Cruising Clayoquot Sound
Clayoquot Sound is a series of inlets and passages with entrances at both its north and south ends. By traveling inside Clayoquot Sound you can explore many coves and anchorages, and avoid 20 miles of ocean swells. Tofino is the only major town, although fuel and some groceries are available at Alhousat.
Much of Clayoquot Sound is within the traditional territory of the Ahousaht First Nation, who have established a Stewardship Guardian Program. First Nation representatives of the Ahousaht Stewardship Program collect donation fees at various anchorages within the Clayoquot Sound in support of their programs which include care of beaches and trails, search and rescue support, management and cultural interpretation for visitor access, and training in first aid. Guardians monitor VHF channel 65A and may be contacted if you are in need of support. For more information call Ahousaht Stewardship Operations at (250) 731-6957.
