Jedediah Island Anchorage

Jedediah Island is a marine park.  Although good anchorages are scarce and tight, Jedediah Island is increasingly popular.  One of the best anchorages is in the little notch, called Deep Bay, opposite the south end of Paul Island, where chains have been installed around this small bay to facilitate stern-ties.  It is impractical that all these stern-ties could be used at the same time in this tiny, v-shaped bay, except for the smallest of boats.   A large number of stern-ties are provided to allow different options for boaters.  Long Bay just south of Deep Bay is usable, too.   Long Bay goes dry a short distance inside the mouth.  Codfish Bay on the southeast side of Jedediah Island has room for two or three boats to stern-tie.  If nothing looks good at Jedediah Island itself, Boho Bay at Laqueti Island, about 1 mile away, is an alternative.

One interesting spot is the narrow and protected steep-sided notch at the southeast end of Jedediah Island.  Although its sheer walls might discourage much on-shore exploration, it is possible to scramble from the head of the notch up the bluffs on the north side.  You will be rewarded not only with access to the rest of the island but also an excellent view toward Texada Island.

For easy access to the island, take the dinghy ashore at Deep Bay and hike the short, well-marked trail across the island.  A map of the island is posted at the head of the trail from both Deep Bay and Long Bay.  A trail also leads from Codfish Bay.  A visit to the old homestead on the east side of Jedediah Island is an exciting adventure and should not be missed.  The homestead is frozen in time and left undisturbed.  Please respect the property and leave things as found for others to enjoy.
