Cruise Over to Pender Island for a Relaxing Laid Back West Coast Experience

Pender Island is a natural stopover for all boats heading north or south in the Strait of Georgia.  For northbound vessels, it’s just the right distance for a day’s run from Nanaimo, Siva Bay, or Howe Sound.  For vessels southbound form Desolation Sound, it’s a good place to prepare for the long, exposed legs across the Strait of Georgia or down the Sunshine Coast on route to Victoria International Marina.  Vessels bound to or from Princess Louisa Inlet often use Pender Island both going and coming.   Pender Island has good anchorages, great eating with boutiques and art vendors.  They have everything from diving services, golf, winery and kayaking tours.  The harbour is nestled against steep mountains; the scenery is beautiful and laid back.  It’s a good place for walking and hiking,  If you carry trial bikes, the nearby Suncoaster Trail is great for a casual ride it’s built and maintained by volunteers.    Pender as gone big time with it’s first official taxi.  Locals travel around the island by standing next the hitch a ride signs that are everywhere.  You’ll be picked up and dropped of by the locals.

Pender Island is not a single large bay.  It is a complex of coves, each with its own personality.  Pender Island has it’s share of events including:  Blues Festival in early June the Jazz Festival in September with musicians and audiences from around the world.  If you love golf check out the Pender Island Golf it’s 9 hole course with light rolling scenic hills.  They have a local farmer market with farm fresh produce, handcrafts, and much more!
