Goat Island Anchorage – The Broughtons

Goat Island Anchorage.  You’ll find good anchorage in the cove that lies off the southeast corner of Crease Island.   Two islands make up this cove a larger island to the north and a much smaller one to the south.  Chart 3546 seems to label the smaller, southern island as Goat Island.

Enter Goat Island Anchorage between Crease Island and the larger, northern island, leaving the north island to port.  The chart makes the preferred entry clear.  Anchor in 12 to 18 feet on a sometimes rocky bottom, wherever it looks good.  The cove is excellent for crabbing.  Weed on the bottom might foul some anchors.  A reader reported that their anchor found a large diameter line on the bottom, probably leftover from earlier logging.  Where there’s one cable there might be more.  It would be a good idea to rig a trip line to the crown of the anchor.  The view to the southeast is very pretty.
