Montague Harbour Anchorage

Montague Harbour is a popular stopping spot in the central Gulf Islands.  It is well-protected and has an outstanding marine park.  Depending on wind direction, you can find good anchorages around the bay.  Entry is unobstructed, either from the southeast, past Phillimore Point, or from the northwest, between Parker Island and Gray Peninsula.

Caution: A shoal extends southeast from the tip of the Gray Peninsula into Montague Harbour.  We’ve seen a boat thoroughly grounded on that shoal, awaiting a rising tide.  Continue well into the harbour before turning east to anchor or pick up a mooring.

Montague Harbour will hold a huge number of boats.  We have anchored there during high season surrounded by more than 100 boats, yet no one was crowded.  Anchore in about 40 feet over a mud bottom.  The marina has a fuel dock, store, gift shop, scooter and kayak rentals, and restaurant.  Wi-Fi is available throughout the harbour.   No discharge zone, Gray Water is okay.

Customs: Montague Harbour is a Canpass/Nexus-only call-in customs clearance location.

Dining: Everybody enjoys the Hummingbird Inn Pub.  A visit to Hummingbird Pub begins with a memorable ride on the Hummingbird Pub bus.   Catch the bus on the road above the marina, about 300 yards to the right of the intersection.  The bus also stops at the front gate of the marine park.  Check the Hummingbird Pub website or signs at the marina and park entrance for the scheduled times for bus pick-up.  The Hummingbird Pub serves food and is family-friendly.
