Octopus Islands Anchorage Desolation Sound

Octopus Islands Marine Park.  This is a beautiful popular anchorage and exploration area, wonderfully protected.  You can enter from Waiatt Bay, but the usual entry is by a narrow channel from the north.  Anchor in any of several coves and run a stern-tie to shore.

At the end of the channel as you enter from the north, a rock, clearly shown on Plans Chart 3537, obstructs part of the entry to the first cove on the right.  This rock is easily seen as a white smear under the water.  You’ll be going slowly anyway; watch for it and you’ll have no trouble.
