Small Inlet Anchorage Desolation Sound
Small Inlet is a narrow but easily run channel with a least depth of 8 feet that leads from the northeast corner of Kanish Bay to Small Inlet. This inlet, surrounded by steep, wooded mountains, is beautiful, although we can confirm that a strong westerly from Johnstone Strait can get in and test your anchoring. Once through the kelp-filled entrance channel, a number of good anchorages can be found along the north shore. A couple of boats can fit behind a little knob of land near the southeast corner. The chart shows 3 rocks in this anchorage actually it’s a reef with 3 high points. You also can anchor in the cove at the head of Small Inlet, behind 2 small islands.
A trail runs from the head of Small Inlet to Waiatt Bay, with a branch that continues to Granite Bay Desolation Sound.
Granite Point. If you are travelling between Discovery Passage and Okisollo Channel, you can safely steer inside Min Rock, north of Granite Point, and run close to Granite Point itself. You will be treated to the sight of some extraordinary rock formations on Granite Point.
