Smuggler Cove Yacht Destination
Smuggler Cove has a narrow entrance through the rocks but opens to a beautiful anchorage that is protected from most weather. We have received reports that the cove is not protected from north westerlies. Before entering, first-timers should have in hand sheet 3 from Sunshine Coast Strip Chart 3311 or Plans Chart 3535. Both charts show Smuggler Cove clearly, but Chart 3311s scale of 1:6000 is even clearer than Chart 3535s 1:10,000 scale. As both charts show, the channel is very close to the Isle Capri side of the entrance in order to avoid rocky shoals extending from the south shore.
Inside is Smuggler Cove Marine Park, which has no facilities for boaters or campers, but does have trails through the park’s 400 acres of woodlands. a favourite activity is paddling a kayak or dinghy among the little islets and coves. Reduce swinging room by taking one of many stern-ties (38), with lengths of chain, set in the rock ashore. New stern ties were added in 2018 and old stern tie installations were upgraded in 2018 by BC Parks and the BC Parks Forever Society.
