Butchart Gardens
Butchart Gardens is a 30-minute drive from Victoria International Marina. It covers approximately 55 acres and features a stunning collection of plants, flowers, and landscaping that make it a year-round destination for visitors.
- The gardens were established in the early 20th century by Jennie Butchart. In 1904, her husband, Robert Pim Butchart, began quarrying limestone on their property to supply cement for his growing business. When the limestone quarry was exhausted in 1909, Jennie Butchart had the idea to turn the abandoned pit into a beautiful garden. Over the years, the couple transformed the site into a series of themed gardens.
- Butchart Gardens is divided into several distinct gardens, each with its own unique theme and plant collections. These gardens include the Sunken Garden, the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Italian Garden, and the Mediterranean Garden, among others.
