Bottleneck Inlet Anchorage Northern BC
Bottleneck Inlet. Bottleneck Inlet, at latitude 52°.42.8N on the east side of Finlayson Channel, is an outstanding anchorage. It is protected and beautiful, and large enough for a number of boats. The north side of the inlet has superb rock walls. The chart shows the least depth of just over a fathom in the narrow entry, and a rock shelf extends from the south shore at the narrow part. Favour the north shore. Deeper draft vessels should enter cautiously at low tide. The chart fails to show an 11-13 fathom hole a short distance inside the entry still. The bottom then comes up to 25-30 feet.
Although we have anchored in Bottleneck Inlet several times now, one night, in particular, was memorable. That was the night a forewarned on-shore gale struck the coast. Four people died in that storm. At 1:30 a.m. the winds hit. We could see clouds racing overhead and hear the wind roaring in the trees above us.
