Fort Rupert Anchorage

Fort Rupert Anchorage.  Located in Beaver Harbour past Thomas Point.  Exposed to north and east winds, but with several areas that serve well for day anchorage or overnight in settled weather.  The town of Fort Rupert consists of two distinct areas, the newer town on the southwest shore of Beaver Harbour and the Native Reserve on the southernmost shore.  Both areas are accessible by dinghy or kayak.  Storey’s Beach Park on the southwest offers a sandy beach and picnic tables.  The south shore is the site of the Kwakiutl Band Longhouse and cemetery with exceptional carvings and paintings by Calvin Hunt, a well-known Master Carver and local resident.  Visitors are welcome at the community carving shed located near the Longhouse and at Calvin Hunt’s art gallery located on Copper Way.

Anchor off the south beach in 16 to 30 feet of water and dinghy to shore, look for a public gazebo for a landing spot.  Position the dinghy appropriately for the charted extensive drying beach.  A short trail leads to the cemetery and longhouse; the small Fort Ruper General Store is nearby.
