Goose Bay Cannery Dock Northern BC

Goose Bay Cannery Dock monitors VHF 06.  Open during the peak summer season.  This is a private facility that is at the discretion of the owners to permit visitors to come ashore.  The historic cannery in Goose Bay built-in 1926 processed and canned salmon from 1927 – 1957 and 350 people once worked and lived at the cannery.   A clean, sturdy 175-foot concrete dock is available for short-term and overnight stays on a first-come, first-serve basis; no power; no water.  Leave space on the dock for floatplanes.  A self-registration payment box is located at the end of the dock ramp, expect a donation fee of $1 per foot.  Fees collected go towards making improvements to the cannery building.  Projects are ongoing and shared among the multiple owners of the property.  Depending on which owner you meet and the work scheduled for that day, you might be able to finesse an invitation for a brief tour of the grounds and cannery.  With permission, hiking the 1-mile trail to a dam located above the cannery may be of interest, but be “bear aware” and take appropriate precautions.  A waterfall and a suspension bridge built in the 1940s can be seen near the dam   Correspondents Knut and Christine Hildebrand report that the trail is challenging.  Use at your own risk.
