Rugged Point Marine Park Anchorage

Rugged Point Marine Park.  Rugged Point marks the southern entrance to Kyuquot Sound.  The beaches on the ocean side are spectacular and deserve a visit.  Anchor along the inside beaches in 18 feet on a kelp-covered hard sand bottom, and dinghy ashore.  The Pacific swell, though diminished, can get into the anchorage.  The anchorage is protected from southeasterlies and westerlies but is subject to occasional nighttime outflow winds.  Be sure you anchor far enough offshore to avoid swinging onto shallows if outflow winds develop.

A trail, now upgraded with a boardwalk, leads through the park to the ocean beaches.   Bear and Cougar prints have been sighted, so be noisy.  Once on the ocean beach, you will find a series of paths leading around headlands all the way to Kapoose Creek.  Some of the paths are steep and involve climbing ladders or using ropes for assistance.
