Bull Harbour Anchorage

Bull Harbour is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  It’s a lovely bay almost landlocked in Hope Island.  it is the place to wait for weather and for slack water on Nahwitti Bar.

Enter Bull Harbour around the east side of Norman Islands, which blocks the southern entrance.  Parts of Bull Harbour grow quiet shoal on a low tide.  Check the depths and tide tables before anchoring for the night.  The bottom is mud and the holding is excellent.  During the fishing season, commercial fish boats often crown the harbour.

All Hope Island, including Bull Harbour, at the west end of Goletas Channel, is the property of the Tlatslsikwala Native band.  Depending on the time of the year, between two and 30 band members are apt to be on Hope Island.  Visitors are no longer allowed to use the dock or go on shore.

Westerly winds can enter Bull Harbour, as can southeast gales.  If you are anchored, be sure the anchor is well set, with adequate scope.  In crowded conditions, achieving adequate scope can be a problem.
