Isle-de-Lis at Rum Island
Isle-de-Lis at Rum Island Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Open all year, anchoring only, campsites and a pit toilet. This is a small, undeveloped, and very pretty park with a walking trail and beaches. Dogs must be on a leash. Rum Island is located at the east end of Gooch Island (private), where Prevost Passage meets Haro Strait. Anchorage is on either side of the gravel spit connecting Rum Island and Gooch Island. The northern anchorage is preferred. Rum Island is said to come by its name honestly during Prohibition. In 1995 the warship HMCS Mackenzie was sunk in approximately 100 feet just north of Gooch Island to create an artificial reef for divers. It is marked with 2 cautionary/information buoys.
