Refuge Cove Marina Desolation Sound
Refuge Cove, with a public marina, fuel dock, shops and well-stocked store, is a good resupply stop in the heart of Desolation Sound. The busiest times are between 11:00 am and 3 pm. For the easiest moorage and fuel dock use, early morning and late afternoon are recommended. Several homes, joined by boardwalks, surround the cove. Ample moorage is available. A floating dock, just off the fuel dock, is for overflow moorage, with no power or water. Dogs should be on a leash. A pet path is beside the used book stand. Anchorage is possible toward the head of the bay.
Traffic can e heavy during the high season. Approach slowly, and wait your turn for dock space or fuel. Turnover is rapid; you shouldn’t have to wait long. Refuge Cove is a scheduled stop for floatplane service.
Garbage barge: Around mid-June, an enterprising chap named Dave Cartwright moors a barge near the mouth of Refuge Cove. For a reasonable fee charged by the pound, he accepts bagged garbage and responsibly takes it away.
Refuge Cove General Store has guest moorage along 2000 feet of side-tie dock space. No reservations; first-come, first-served. The fuel dock has gasoline, diesel and propane. Washrooms, showers and laundry are up by the store. Free purified water, 15 amp power, fee-based Wi-Fi. The store carries groceries, fresh produce, deli items including cheeses and meats, hand-dipped ice cream, a complete liquor agency with interesting wine selections, some marine supplies and gear, charts, cube and block ice, and a good selection of books and magazines.
