Turtle Bay Anchorage
Turtle Bay. Turtle Bay is a local name for the bay formed by Turtle Island. Willis Island, and Dodd Island. Joes Bay, an appendage of Turtle Bay, indents Turtle Island. It is a little nook where Salal Joe, the Hermit of Barkley Sound, made his home.
The best entrance to Turtle Bay is from the north, off Peacock Channel, between Dodd Island and Chalk Island. A study of the chart shows the entrance channel bounded by rocks and drying rock outcropping along the way. A careful entry, proceeding slowly and identifying the hazards, will bring you in safely. Those who have been in a few times know where the rocks are and roar right in.
