Yachts Cruising Near Lasqueti Island, BC

Lasqueti Island is often overlooked by yachts as they cruise across the strait between Nanaimo and the Sunshine Coast, or run along the Vancouver Island shore between Nanaimo and Campbell River.   The island has a number of good anchorages.  A convenience store is at the village of False Bay, located upland from the ferry landing on the left.  The shores of Lasqueti Island are indented by a number of bays that invite anchorage.

Along the south shore are Boat Cove, Old House Bay, Richardson Cover and Jenkins Cove all of which are somewhat open to southerlies, but offer good protection from northerlies or settled weather.  This part of the Lasqueti shoreline is rugged and beautiful.  Squitty Bay is at the southeast end of Lasqueti Island – tiny, but with a pubic float.  Several little dog-holes for anchoring can be found in Bull Passage.  Little Bull Passage, between Jedediah Island and Bull island, has a number of good anchorages on both ends and is passable for most boats.  Other anchorages are Boho Bay, Tucker Bay and Scottie Bay.  Spring Bay is only partially protected from the north by a group of small islands offshore.
