Roscoe Bay Marine Park Anchorage

Roscoe Bay, on West Redonda Island where Waddington Channel meets Homfray Channel, is an excellent, protected, and popular anchorage.  The bay is divided into an inner cove and an outer cove, separated by a drying shoal easily crossed by shallow draft boats at half tide or better.  If in doubt, go in on a rising tide.  At high tide, most sailboats can get in.

The inner cove is pretty, and except for the other boats enjoying the bay with you, it’s a good example of what cruising in these waters is all about.  Dinghy ashore and take the short hike up to the knob dividing the two bays.

At the head of the inner cove, an old logging road with short steam beside it connects with Black Lake.  During the summer months, the water in Black Lake is warm and excellent for swimming or bathing.  Trout fishing is reportedly good.  If you carry your dinghy up the road you can launch it along the lake’s shoreline.
